NOISE SOURCE, NS-3
APPLICATIONS
AM/PM noise measurements
Characterization of components
FEATURES
Stable Gaussian noise generator
Noise bandwidth up to 10%
Noise flatness < 1 dB
Low insertion loss
DESCRIPTION
Model NS-3 is a gaussian noise source module that plugs into the NMS mainframe may be used to calibrate
the AM and PM noise measurement system. The gaussian noise source is typically bandwidth limited to 10%
of the carrier frequency of interest and is summed with the RF carrier when calibrating the measurement
system. The standard unit comes with three noise filter settings: 5 MHz, 10 MHZ and 100 MHz. Other
frequencies are available upon request.
The noise source can be turned on or off manually or under control of the Noise Measurement System
Controller. Once calibration is complete, the noise source may be turned off and the AM or PM noise
measurement can be completed without disconnecting any of the signals. The noise source calibration
certificate may be obtained from SDI or from NIST.
