DESCRIPTION
Model ND-1 is a noise detector module that may be used to measure AM or PM
noise. The module has a proprietary noise detector that can be used to make very high
-resolution single channel measurements. Two ND-1 modules can be combined to
create a dual-channel measurement system. Dual-channel noise analysis will allow
an effective reduction of at least 10 dB and up to 20 dB from the system noise floor. RF
level measurements are made on both the RF and LO inputs. The low noise IF
amplifier has variable gain and bandwidth settings to accommodate different
measurement requirements and a calibration input is available for automatic gain
calibration. The ND-1 also includes an adjustable bandwidth phase-lock loop that can
be used when measuring oscillators to lock the reference and device under test.
The ND-1 plugs into the NMS mainframe and requires a Noise Measurement System
Controller (NMSC).
